Physical Activities at home
There's nothing worse when you've planned a day out exploring nature then the heavens opens. Personally I don't mind a bit of rain but I'm not a fan of heavy rain. This sadly doesn't take away the fact that the children are fully of energy that they need to burn off and some children learn through physical activity.
FOLLOW THE LINES
I've done this activity a few times with children. Depending on the age of child you can make it as challenging as far as it depends on them.
So here I used masking tape and coloured paper that it. The children followed the lines for a long period of time and kept coming back to it too. These children were primary school age so the papers represent lave (red) and the river (blue).
You can expand this easily depending on what the needs and wants are. Some ways are ...
- having the children help you, cutting the tape placing the tape to make zig zag, spirals and straight lines
- you can make the tape into shapes for maths or numbers.
- you can make the tape in to letters maybe relating to a word they are learning to spell or the letters in their name.
- you can design and paint lava on paper to put around it.
What do they gain from this?
- Spatial Awareness
- Balance control
- Hand - eye coordination
- Builds on fine motor skills
- Builds on gross motor skills
- Build Confidence in physical ability
Indoor Basket Ball
Its not a shock that children love throwing things some of which us grown ups don't like the thought of. With this activity we can train them to have a good aim and encourage them not to throw our fine China!
I'm big on money saving so I found this for you on amazon what's really good about this it can be used in the bath or even on windows. The balls are soft enough and when you're finished you can put it away instead of it cluttering you bathroom or living room. The link below will bring you straight to it.
